    1. Employer \u2013 specific work Permits<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Applicant can work in Canada according to the conditions on your work permit, such as:<\/p>\n

        \n
      • the name of the specific employer you can work for<\/li>\n
      • how long you can work<\/li>\n
      • the location where you can work (if applicable)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        Before you submit your application for an employer-specific work permit, the employer who wants to hire you must\u00a0complete certain steps\u00a0and give you either a copy of a\u00a0Labour Market Impact Assessment\u00a0or an offer of employment number to include in your application.<\/p>\n

        \u00a0<\/p>\n

        Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA)<\/strong><\/p>\n

        \u00a0<\/p>\n

          \n
        • a document that an employer in Canada\u00a0may<\/strong>need to get before hiring a foreign worker.<\/li>\n
        • A positive LMIA will show that there is a need for a foreign worker to fill the job. It will also show that no Canadian worker is available to do the job. A positive LMIA is sometimes called a confirmation letter.<\/li>\n
        • If the employer\u00a0needs an LMIA, they\u00a0must apply for one.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

          \u00a0<\/p>\n

          \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

          Post-graduation work permit (PGWP)<\/strong><\/p>\n

          Eligibility<\/h2>\n

          You have\u00a0180 days<\/strong>\u00a0after your school issues your final marks to apply for a post-graduation work permit (PGWP).<\/p>\n

          To be eligible, your study permit must have been valid at some point during these 180 days.<\/p>\n

          You must also have:<\/p>\n

            \n
          • completed a study program:<\/li>\n
              \n
            • at a designated learning institution<\/li>\n
            • that was at least 8 months long and<\/li>\n
            • that led to a degree, diploma or certificate<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
            • maintained\u00a0full-time<\/strong>\u00a0status as a student in Canada during each semester of your study program (except your final semester, which can be part-time, or if you took a leave from studies)<\/li>\n
            • graduated from a:<\/li>\n
                \n
              • public post-secondary school, such as a college, trade\/technical school, university, or\u00a0CEGEP\u00a0(in Quebec), or<\/li>\n
              • private post-secondary school (in Quebec) that operates under the same rules as public schools in Quebec, or<\/li>\n
              • private secondary or post-secondary school (in Quebec) that offers qualifying programs of 900\u00a0hours or longer, that leads to a\u00a0dipl\u00f4me d\u2019\u00e9tudes professionnelles (DEP)\u00a0or an\u00a0attestation de sp\u00e9cialisation professionnelle (ASP), or<\/li>\n
              • Canadian private school that can award degrees under provincial law (for example, Associate, Bachelor\u2019s, Master\u2019s or Doctorate degree)\u00a0but only if you\u2019re enrolled in a study program that leads to a degree as authorized by the province<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n

                \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

                Co-op Student or Intern Work Permit<\/strong><\/p>\n

                Eligibility<\/h2>\n

                Some study programs include work experience as part of their curriculum. You can apply for a co-op or intern work permit if:<\/p>\n

                  \n
                • you have a valid study permit<\/li>\n
                • work is required to complete your study program in Canada<\/li>\n
                • you have a letter from your\u00a0school\u00a0that confirms all students in your program need to complete work placements to get their degree, and<\/li>\n
                • your co-op placement or internship totals 50% or less of your study program<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                  \u00a0<\/p>\n

                  Spouse\/Common-Law Partner Work Permit<\/strong><\/p>\n

                  Your spouse or common-law partner may be eligible for an\u00a0open work permit\u00a0if you:<\/p>\n

                    \n
                  • have a valid study permit and<\/li>\n
                  • are a full-time student at one of these types of schools:<\/li>\n
                      \n
                    • a public post-secondary school, such as a college or university, or CEGEP in Quebec<\/li>\n
                    • a private college-level school in Quebec<\/li>\n
                    • a Canadian private school that can legally award degrees under provincial law (for example, Bachelors, Masters or Doctorate degree)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n
